❓ Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Indian number format used here?
This tool uses the Indian number system: Ones → Tens → Hundreds → Thousands → Lakhs → Crores. For example, 1,50,000 is written as “One Lakh Fifty Thousand” — not “One Hundred and Fifty Thousand” as in the international system.
What is the maximum number I can convert?
The tool supports numbers up to 99,99,99,999 (Ninety-Nine Crore Ninety-Nine Lakh Ninety-Nine Thousand Nine Hundred and Ninety-Nine). Numbers beyond 9 digits will show an overflow warning.
Why should I add “Only” at the end for cheques?
Adding “Only” at the end of the amount in words on a cheque is a standard banking practice in India. It prevents fraudulent alteration of the cheque amount by making it clear the amount is complete with no additional figures.
Which mode should I use for a bank cheque?
Use Rupees mode with ALL CAPS and Add Only both turned on. Example output: RUPEES SEVENTY-FIVE THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONLY — this is the standard format accepted by Indian banks.
Which mode should I use for a mark sheet or certificate?
Use Marks mode. This adds “Marks” as a suffix. You can optionally turn on “Only” and “ALL CAPS” depending on the format required by your institution.
Does it support decimal/paisa amounts?
Currently the tool works with whole numbers only. Decimal values are accepted in the input but only the whole number part is converted. For example, 1500.75 is treated as 1500. Support for paise (decimal) conversion may be added in future updates.
Can I use this for Tamil Nadu government forms?
Yes. The output follows the standard Indian English format used in TN government forms, bank challan sheets, and school mark certificates. Use Rupees mode + ALL CAPS + Only for government documents.
